True stories, tall tales, and memorabilia of the American West

Old Hoppy, Mrs. Hoppy wish you Merry Christmas!

Nothing much to say here, except a very, very Merry Christmas wish to all of you who choose to spend any of your time hanging out here. If you take a good look around and read our "About" page, you'll understand that life in the Old West, both all the fables and true tales about real people, are a lifelong interest of mine. (You'll also find a brief explanation of why I use the name "Old Hoppy" here.)

I've never lived on a farm, though I have family that homesteaded some dirt-poor farms in southeastern Colorado as well as the Sand Hills of Nebraska. I've never owned a horse, though my Dad and Aunt pretty much grew up on horseback, both my brothers ride (my older brother owns a horse farm in Maryland; his wife is a certified dressage instructor), and my Grandfather was a trainer for several years at the Centennial Race Track in Denver, Colorado.

I faithfully watched every episode of such 1950s television favorites as Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, and such 1960s staples as Bonanza, The Legend of Wyatt Earp, Gunsmoke, Cheyenne, Have Gun Will Travel, Maverick, and just about everything else related to the Old West. Doesn't give me any special expertise, I know -- but it gives you some idea of my interest in the American West and love of a good story.

Somewhere stuffed into a dusty old virtual drawer on this hard drive, I've got the first chapter or two of at least three Western novels. If there ever again comes around a good market for Westerns, I'll be there dusting 'em off and finishing 'em up.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hoppy and I wish you all a wonderful Christmas centered on the love of God in Christ and the love of family and friends. And, yup, Happy Holidays, too!
